Here are listed some IELTS vs. TOEFL exams and score comparisons you should know before choosing the correct test for you to study abroad. Here are listed some facts and figures by the best study overseas education consultants in India for you to know before choosing abroad for study.
TOEFL speech and writing sections are assessed primarily based on what they look like, including your vocabulary, writing style, and grammar. IELTS is assessed on the basis of separate grades based on certain criteria such as logic, consistency, grammar, and fluency. For example, an essay with a logical stream of ideas but poor grammar may score higher on the TOEFL exam, but an essay with good grammar and vocabulary but a weaker ability to communicate a concept will score higher on IELTS criteria. IELTS is rated on a scale of 1-9, giving your total score as the average of the individual scores for all four exams. If your average is 6.25, it will be rounded up to 6.5. The TOEFL is a single test with a maximum score of 120 points. The TOEFL and IELTS scores can be broadly compared as follows:

When you try the IELTS paper, you will be asked to solve 2 writing questions. In the first one, you have to explain the information provided in the form of a chart, spreadsheet, etc. While in the second, you have to write 200-250 words based on an argument or a specific perspective. If you take the TOEFL exam, you will need to write a five-piece essay 300-350. In the second question, you have to look for notes in the given text and frame the answer in 150-225 words.
The TOEFL speech assessment is recorded through a microphone and sent to graduates, while the IELTS speaking test is a face-to-face test for all applicants. The duration of the TOEFL would be 20 minutes. IELTS should be no more than 10-15 minutes. An important distinguishing factor in the TOEFL vs. IELTS is the ability to try the speech test before other IELTS exams, while the TOEFL does not have such an option.

Get Your Free GuideThe reading exam for both experiments includes texts around the lines they encounter in their programs. The TOEFL test offers 3 to 5 reading questions to be done in only 20 minutes. The IELTS test contains 3 questions in this section and applicants are asked to answer the questions in various formats such as gap announcements, short answers, etc.
The listening test for both exams is very different. In the IELTS exam for study abroad, participant students can each answer questions while listening to a recording. There are a variety of long and short questions. Instead, the TOEFL test is based on classroom lectures, and applicants take this into account when listening to audio. Students must complete the MCQs within the given 40-60 minute duration in the TOEFL listening component.
